Part-Time Circulation Clerk Position at Winfield Public Library

Winfield Public Library is hiring a part-time Circulation Clerk. Applications will be accepted through January 19th.

Hours (10-15 hours per week)
Hours between 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm weekdays / 9:00 am – 5:00 pm weekends

Wage: $11 – $13 per hour

POSITION TITLE: Circulation Clerk

REPORTS TO: Head of Circulation & Library Director

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

            To serve patrons of the Winfield Public Library. This requires knowing the Winfield Public Library’s position on service and access to library resources for all.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists patrons at the OPACs, locates materials in all parts of the library, assists with the internet and other public-access computers as well as other library equipment.
  • Shelves books.
  • Provides direct information and reader’s advisory services, referring questions to SCKLS or other staff members when appropriate.
  • Knows and performs all aspects of the circulation function.
  • Assists with the overdue and inter-library loan process.
  • Maintains patron records.
  • Assists with database maintenance that includes withdrawing selected materials, moving new items to the general collection and other similar activities for the general good of the library.
  • Assists in supervision of circulation assistants, and training of new staff members.
  • Perform daily check-in of periodicals and newspapers.
  • Promotes all services and programs of the library.
  • Answers and routes telephone calls as received from the public.
  • Walks through the library at regular intervals when on desk duty to check the general appearance of the library, making adjustments and improvements.
  • Performs general maintenance on library equipment, i.e. changing toner cartridges in copier.
  • Implements emergency procedures when appropriate.
  • Performs opening and closing procedures.
  • Assists in the processing of new materials.
  • Assists in the arrangement and management of donated materials.
  • Completes special projects as requested and other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCES AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated positive support/service attitude is required to meet, communicate with, and serve the public effectively.
  • At the level of some college course work, ability to read and comprehend both written and oral instructions, to initiate own work, and to multi-task.
  • Proficiency in the application of basic clerical skills and ability to process information effectively using a computer is required.
  • Pleasant and courteous service desk response is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

            This position is operated in an “office” environment and requires the ability to handle informational items and boxes up to 25 lbs; to pull/push book carts, and the ability to reach items on high and low shelves.

Today, Carnegie Corporation of New York is honoring that legacy with $10,000 gifts to the roughly 1,280 Carnegie Libraries still in operation as part of America’s 250th anniversary.
