More on The Dry from the publisher:

In the grip of the worst drought in a century, the farming community of Kiewarra is facing life and death choices daily when three members of a local family are found brutally slain.

Federal Police investigator Aaron Falk reluctantly returns to his hometown for the funeral of his childhood friend, loath to face the townsfolk who turned their backs on him twenty years earlier.

But as questions mount, Falk is forced to probe deeper into the deaths of the Hadler family. Because Falk and Luke Hadler shared a secret. A secret Falk thought was long buried. A secret Luke’s death now threatens to bring to the surface in this small Australian town, as old wounds bleed into new ones.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Frank Baum

November 25 6:30 pm @ the WPL

WPL’s Bookn’ with Friends book club will meet to discuss L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s tale, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz on Monday, November 25 at 6:30pm.

Selected to meet the 2024 Reading Challenge “a book written before you were born,” The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was first published in 1900. The book has since had an unmistakable influence on American culture, inspiring countless adaptations and reinterpretations – the 1939 movie, 1974’s The Wiz, and Gregory Maguire’s Wicked, to name just a few.

From the publisher:

Come along, Toto, she said. We will go to the Emerald City and ask the Great Oz how to get back to Kansas again.

Swept away from her home in Kansas by a tornado, Dorothy and her dog Toto find themselves stranded in the fantastical Land of Oz. As instructed by the Good Witch of the North and the Munchkins, Dorothy sets off on the yellow brick road to try and find her way to the Emerald City and the Wizard of Oz, who can help her get home. With her companions the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion, Dorothy experiences an adventure full of friendship, magic and danger. A much-loved children’s classic, The Wizard of Oz continues to delight readers young and old with its enchanting tale of witches, flying monkeys and silver shoes.

Lindsay Pollak

Upcoming Meeting: Wednesday, October 23 Noon – 1:30 pm @ the Winfield Chamber of Commerce Office

A globally recognized career and workplace expert, The Remix author Lindsey Pollack is a leading voice on the multigenerational workplace. In a business context, she defines “remix” as a positive approach to organizational change that takes the best of each generation’s ideas and practices to design a brighter future of work.  From the publisher:

Millennials have become the largest generation in the U.S. Workforce, and Generation Z workers are right behind them. Leaders and organizations must embrace the new ways of working that appeal to the digital-first generations, while continuing to appeal to Baby Boomers and Generation X, who will likely remain in the workforce for decades to come.

Within any organization, team, meeting, or marketing opportunity, you will likely find any combination of generations, each with their own attitudes, expectations, and professional styles. To lead and succeed in business today, you must adjust to how Millennials work, continue to accommodate experienced colleagues and pay attention to the next generations coming up. The Remix shows you how to adapt and win through proven strategies that serve all generations’ needs. The result is a workplace that blends the best of each generation’s ideas and practices to design a smarter, more inclusive work environment for everyone.
